Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of culture media thickness on the growth and production of maggots (Hermetia illucens). The method used was a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments with 3 replications, namely, P1 = thickness of palm oil meal (5cm), P2 = thickness of palm oil meal (7cm), P3 = thickness of palm oil meal (9cm), P4 = thickness of palm oil cake ( 11cm) and P5 = thickness of palm oil meal (13cm). The results of the research obtained the best nutritional combination in the P5 treatment with weight growth of 0.254 gr, length growth of 2.21 cm, daily growth rate of 1.805% and a total production of 2900 gr. The test results for the content of the culture media were air content 29.74%, protein 36.60%, fat 4.31%, carbohydrates 1.31%, crude fiber 2.13%. Environmental parameters during the research were temperature ranging from 35.7 to 41.2oC, humidity 70-96% and pH 6.3-6.5.
