Abstract

Fuel scarcity is a frequent and common problem in Indonesia. This problem is one of the problems that has an impact on society, because the demand for fuel cannot be met due to the dwindling availability of natural resources. Fuel oil has been scarce, this can be minimized by utilizing other alternative energy from renewable resources.another example is utilizing water as an energy source using the electrolysis method. Water electrolysis is the event of decomposition of H2O water compounds into oxygen O2 and hydrogen gas H2 by using an electric current through the water. At the cathode two water molecules react by capturing two electrons, reduced to H2 gas and OH- hydroxide ions. Meanwhile, in the anode, two other water molecules decompose into O2 oxygen gas, releasing 4 H+ ions and flowing electrons to the cathode. H+ and OH-ions undergo neutralization so that some water molecules are re-formed. The hydrogen and oxygen gases resulting from this reaction form bubbles on the electrode and can be collected. This principle is then used to produce hydrogen and hydrogen peroxide H2O2 which can be used as fuel. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in electrolysis time on hydrogen gas and to determine the comparison of variations in stainless steel (SS) and copper (Cu) electrodes on the amount of hydrogen gas produced.In this study, the author made variations on the electrodes used in the reactor using 3 types of variations, namely stainless- stainless, stinless-copper and copper-copper variations. In the stinless-stainless variation, the volume of HHO gas produced is 590 ml, the electrical power used is 30 watts, the Q value is 0.000492 l / s and the efficiency is ? = 10.67%. In the stainless-copper variation, the volume of HHO gas produced is 540 ml, the electrical power used is 66 watts, the Q value is 0.00045 l/s and the efficiency is ?=4.43%. Finally, the variation of copper-copper volume of HHO gas produced is 175 ml, the electrical power used is 30 watts, the Q value is 0.000146 l/s and the efficiency is ?=3.16%.
