Abstract

The need for energy is increasing in number along with the growth of human population and economic growth. One of the most abundant renewable energies is biomass, namely by making briquettes using a biomass stove. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the density of coconut shell briquettes and corncobs on the performance of biomass stoves. This test uses variations in briquette pressure, namely 1 kg, 3 kg and 5 kg. Based on the results of the research that has been done, it shows that the density value at 5 kg pressure is 1,032 g/cm 3 . The highest burning rate occurred in briquettes with a 5 kg briquette pressure of 0.033 kg/minute and the lowest at a 1 kg briquette pressure of 0.020 kg/minute. The highest thermal efficiency occurred in the stove test with 1 kg of briquette pressure of 19.28% and the lowest at 5 kg of pressure of 8.15%. The highest input energy in testing the performance of the biomass stove was found in briquettes with a 5 kg pressure of 214038.8 kJ/h and the lowest was on a pressure of 74681.57 kJ/h. The highest value of specific fuel consumption occurs in briquettes with a pressure of 5 kg of 2 kg/h and the lowest at a pressure of 1 kg of 1.2 kg/h. The pressure is very influential on the performance of the biomass stove. So that the pressure that can affect the performance of the biomass stove well is 5 kg. , 3 kg pressure is 0.905 g/cm 3 , and 5 kg pressure is 1,032 g/cm 3
