Abstract
Gas lock is defined as an event where the fluid flow is blocked by the gas phase and inhibits the production flow rate. This is due to the release of the free gas phase in oil that has a high gas oil ratio (GOR) value. This condition occurs at pump intake pressure (PIP) or fluid over pump (FOP) which is smaller than the oil bubble point pressure (Pb). Early indications of free gas formation can be seen from the erratic amp-chart, high annulus pressure, and the pump operating below its efficiency. Handling gas lock problems in ESP pumps can use additional equipment below the surface, namely a gas separator and calculate the PIP maintained above Pb. The addition of gas separator installation in the pump to reduce free gas into the pump and free gas released into the annulus casing. In this thesis, the researcher uses a case study a production wells in the condition of an on (producing) well with a high GOR value of 100 Mscf/day, a well design rate of 850 BFPD, and a pump intake pressure (PIP) of dissolved above the well bubble point pressure (Pb) of 150 psi. From the results of data processing in prosper V11 software, the ESP pump in well Y was changed from REDA DN1300 to REDA DN1100 so that the results obtained from inputting ESP pump data in well Y with a gas separator sensitivity value of 89% obtained the best efficiency value of the pump of 62% with the optimal production rate obtained 1330 RB/day.
