Abstract

One type of soil that has many problems in a construction development is clay soil. Clay soil originating from Jl. Abdul Rahman Hamid, Tenayan Raya District, Pekanbaru has a problem where there are cracks and waves on the road due to non-uniform subsidence. To deal with problems in the soil one way that can be done is by stabilization. The purpose of this study was to determine the physical and mechanical properties of clay soil, to determine the effect of a mixture of rice husk ash on the value of free compressive strength and CBR value and to find the optimal mixture. The research uses the laboratory test method, by testing the free compressive strength and CBR with the addition of rice husk ash from Jl. Parit Satu, Tanjung Kapal Village, Rupat District. On the variation of rice husk ash mixture amounting to 4%, 7%, and 10% of the dry weight of the soil with unfermented conditions, 7 days of fermentation and 4 days of soaking. Based on this research, the value of water content is 35,43%, specific gravity is 2.59, liquid limit (LL) is 58.26%, plastic limit (PL) is 31.41%, plasticity index (IP) is 26.85%, percent sieve passes no 200 of 98.50%, optimum water content of 22%, maximum dry unit weight of 1,405 gr/cm3. The effect of using ASP on the value of free compressive strength (q?) and CBR in unfermented conditions increased in the 4% and 7% ASP mixture, but decreased in the 10% ASP mixture. The influence of the use of ASP mixture on 7-day fermentation increases the value of compressive strength (q?) and CBR values. Whereas in immersion conditions, the CBR value tends to decrease with increasing ASP levels. The optimal mixture in free compressive strength (q?) occurs in a mixture of 10% ASP in fermented condition 7 amounting to 5.50 kg/cm2 and CBR occurred in a mixture of 10% ASP with a 7-day fermentation condition of 12.85%. Thus, it is concluded that the use of the percentage of the mixture as well as the length of the soaking and soaking days used can affect the free compressive strength value and the CBR value of the soil.
