Abstract
Clay soil is one of the base soils that is considered bad for construction work. Clay soil is very susceptible to changes in water content and often experiences instability in supporting the load above it. Therefore, efforts were made to improve clay soil using the stabilization method with a mixture of palm fiber ash and egg shell powder. For the mixture of palm fiber ash used are variations of 7%, 10% and 13% and 5% of egg shell powder to the weight of the original dry soil. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using eggshells and palm fiber on the highest CBR values ??and free strength in clay soils. The research was conducted to test the mechanical properties of the original soil along with the soil that had been mixed with palm fiber ash and eggshell powder. CBR testing was carried out with 2 ripening processes of the specimens, namely CBR without soaking (Unsoaked) curing for 0 days and 7 days and CBR soaking (Soaked) for 4 days. While in the free compressive strength test there are 2 curing processes, namely at 0 days and 7 days. From the results of the research conducted, it was found that the increase in CBR value and free compressive strength was found in the percentage of palm fiber ash 13% and 5% eggshell powder at 0 days and 7 days of ripening, for 0 days of ripening CBR values ??there was a value of 12.20% and for 7 days of curing had a value of 16.46%, in CBR immersion conditions at 4 days, the value did not meet CBR testing standards in the laboratory > 6% with a value of 5.02%. Meanwhile, the highest qu value was the compressive strength with 0 day curing time with a value of 5.21 kg/cm2, whereas in the 7 day curing the free compressive strength value also increased with a value of 4.47 kg/cm2.
