Abstract
Clay soil is classified as soft soil, which has low bearing capacity and low compressive strength. The result is damage due to a non-uniform decrease. Including the Artificial Lake area, Pekanbaru City, Riau. There are lots of damaged and potholed roads. For this reason, it is necessary to stabilize the soil using a mixture of salt (NaCl) and zeolite. This study aims to determine the effect on the physical properties of clay soil and the most effective percentage of adding salt (NaCl) and zeolite to the CBR value. This study used the stabilization method to clay soil at the Lake area, Pekanbaru City,Riau. by testing Atterberg Limit, Standard Proctor, and CBR with a variation of the mixture used of 6% salt (NaCl) and 6%, 8%, and 10% zeolite with variations in curing time for 4 and 7 days and soaking for 4 days. Based on the results of this test, the classification of native soil types is a type of inorganic clay with high plasticity. The influence of a mixture of salt (NaCl) and zeolite can reduce the largest liquid limit in a mixture of 6% salt with a decrease of 15.94%. And the biggest increase in plastic limit occurred in a mixture of 6% salt (NaCl) and 10% zeolite, with an increase of 36.83%. As well as the greatest decrease in the plasticity index in a mixture of 6% salt (NaCl) and 10% zeolite, with an increase of 221.91% from the original soil. Meanwhile, the optimum water content decreased by 22.95% and the dry unit weight increased by 10.03%. The longer the curing time, the greater the CBR value that occurs. The highest CBR value is obtained in the 6% salt (NaCl) + 8% zeolite variation, with an increase in the CBR value of 99.65% from the CBR value of the original soil without curing. However, the immersion CBR value has not yet reached a value > 6%, so it cannot be used as a soil stabilizing agent for the highway subgrade.
