Abstract
Pekanbaru is one of the largest capital cities in Riau Province and is the largest economic center in Indonesia, which has an increasing population every year. The increase in population has an impact on the high public demand for two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles which can cause congestion. In order to reduce the number of traffic jams, cycling is one of the alternatives that can be done in urban areas, especially Pekanbaru City. Cycling activities need to be supported by facilities such as the availability of special bicycle lanes so that people can cycle comfortably without being disturbed by other transportation users. This study aims to determine the characteristics of cyclists in Pekanbaru City, to find out people's opinions about the implementation of bicycle lanes on Jalan Gajah Mada, Diponegoro and Jalan Sudirman, and to find out the obstacles that affect the implementation of bicycle lanes. The method used in this study through data collection techniques by means of literature studies and observations. Literature study by collecting, identifying and processing written data obtained and can be used as a guide in the planning process. Observations were made by collecting data directly in the field by means of a survey. The data collected includes primary data by distributing questionnaires to 97 respondents. The results of the survey were analyzed using descriptive statistics, data processing and analysis were carried out with the help of the SPSS program. Based on the results obtained in this study, the characteristics of bicycle users in Pekanbaru City are dominated by men with an age range of 20-50 years. As many as 92.5% of respondents agree or strongly agree if in Pekanbaru City re-implemented special bicycle lanes, with the identification of the lanes that are applied consisting of aspects of safety, comfort and aspects of attractiveness. In order for the implementation of bicycle lanes to be carried out according to plan, involvement, cooperation and coordination between government and non-government agencies is required.
