Abstract
Batako is a type of brick-shaped building element made from portland cement, water and fine aggregate used for wall installation (SNI 03-0349-1983). Sawdust is a waste obtained from sawing wood using a machine or manually. Waste sawdust creates problems in its handling, namely being allowed to rot, stacked up, and burned, all of which have a negative impact on the environment. The purpose of this study was to see the effect and results of the compressive strength of the addition of a mixture of sawdust as a partial replacement for sand. This study used laboratory experimental methods, with test objects made using a brick molding machine with a size of 10.5 x 10.5 x 10.5 cm which was tested at the age of 28 days. The compressive strength of adobe bricks is analogous to the compressive strength of concrete. The results of the average compressive strength of sand bricks are adjusted to the quality requirements of the bricks, namely SNI 03-0349-1989, with a compressive strength of quality I of 100 Kg/cm2, quality II of 70 Kg/cm2, quality III of 40 Kg/cm2 , and IV quality of 25 Kg/cm2. The results showed that the use of various variations of sawdust as a partial replacement for sand had several effects, among others, at a percentage variation of 100% it produced bricks with the lightest weight of the test object, so that the higher the variety of sawdust, the lighter the sample weight. Variations in the percentage of sawdust also affect the average compressive strength of bricks. Based on the research results, the average compressive strength of cast sand bricks with a mixture of sawdust of 5%, 20%, 40%, 60% and 100% of the weight of sand has decreased compared to normal cast sand bricks, with each compressive strength being 125 .25 kg/cm2, 5.24 kg/cm2, 3.39 kg/cm2, 2.89 kg/cm2, 2.31 kg/cm2. The results of the research on the average compressive strength that entered the category according to SNI 03-0349-1989 standards were found at a percentage of 5% with a compressive strength value of 125.25 kg/cm2 included in the quality category I (100 kg/cm2 compressive strength).
