Abstract

Paving block is a mixture that has a composition including variations of building materials that are generally mixed with types of Portland cement and variations of hydraulic sticking, mixtures of water and also add various types of aggregates that have or do not have other added materials with a note that they do not interfere with the quality of a concrete mixture. (SNI 03-0691-1996). This study was conducted to reduce the use of some cement as a mixture of paving block making with zeolite use, and the aim was to determine the effect of adding zeolite on compressive strength and water absorption in paving blocks. Zeolite as a partial replacement of cement where here cement is used type 1 PPC type and taratak buluh river sand in this study using a mixture percentage of 0%, 5%, 7%, and 9% to the weight of cement, in testing compressive strength and water absorption for 28 days. In this study using SNI 03-0691-1996. For compressive strength testing using cube test specimens measuring 6 x 6 x 6 cm, and for water absorption testing using test specimens measuring 21 x 10.5 x 6 cm. Based on the research conducted, the compressive strength value of paving blocks can be concluded that the use of zeolite can be used as a substitute for some cement in paving blocks. So it can be stated that the maximum value of compressive strength is at 7% with quality B. The more zeolite addition, the lower the compressive strength value of paving blocks. In water absorption, the greater the amount of zeolite used as a substitute for some cement, the increasing percentage of water absorption from paving blocks. This shows that the use of too much zeolite is not good for the quality of paving blocks
