Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of interaction and the main factors of rootstock age and scion length on the success rate of cocoa (Theobroma cacao L) grafting. The study was conducted at the experimental garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Riau Islamic University, Jl. Air Dingin Ujung, Air Dingin Village, Pekanbaru City for 4 months from January to April 2024. This study used a Split Plot Design (RPT) or split plot design factorial consisting of 2 factors. The first factor is the age of the rootstock which consists of 4 treatment levels, namely: 1, 2, 3 and 4 months. The second factor is the length of the scion which consists of 4 treatment levels, namely: 5, 10, 15 and 20 cm. Each treatment consists of 3 replications so that there are 48 experimental units. The parameters observed were shoot length, age of shoot emergence, number of shoots per scion, diameter of the upper stem and percentage of life. The data were analyzed statistically and continued with an honest significant difference test (HSD) at the 5% level. The results showed that the interaction effect of rootstock age and scion length was significantly different on the parameters of shoot length, shoot emergence age, number of shoots per scion, upper stem diameter and percentage of life. The main effect of rootstock age was significantly different on all observation parameters with the best treatment being at the rootstock age of 4 months. The main effect of scion length was significantly different on all observation parameters with the best treatment being at scion length of 20 cm.
