Abstract

With the development of technology, this makes many want to develop alternative energy, one of which is water energy using water turbines. The use of water turbines has begun to be widely used, one of which is the vortex turbine. A vortex turbine is a micro hydro turbine that utilizes a water vortex to drive its blades and can operate at relatively low heads. This study aims to determine the effect of impeller blade type (straight and curved) with variations in impeller height and number of blades to get more optimal turbine performance. The impeller made is a straight and curved blade type impeller. The impeller height is 205 mm, 210 mm and 215 mm and the number of blades varies between 8 and 9 pieces. The results of this study are the results of the comparison between the straight blade impeller and the curved blade, the curved blade impeller that gets the highest value of turbine performance compared to the straight blade impeller. The curved blade impeller with a height of 215 mm and the number of blades of 9 pieces produces the highest turbine performance in this study. The resulting turbine performance is respectively, namely the hydraulic power (P hid ) value of 387.57 Watt, torque (T) generated 0.7609 Nm, turbine power (P t ) generated 46.77 Watt. and turbine efficiency (? t ) generated 13.41%. While the 205 mm straight blade impeller with the number of blades 8 pieces is the impeller with the lowest value in the resulting turbine performance.
