Abstract
Field X has a long history, starting in 1977, and has made significant contributions in the Rokan Work Area, with a total Original Oil in Place (OOIP) of 21.42 MMSTB. In the primary phase, Field X has produced approximately 5.66 MMSTB of oil with a Recovery factor of 26%, using the natural flow and artificial lift mechanisms. In this study, the waterflooding method was chosen to analyze the incremental reserve and optimize production and recovery factor in Field X. Waterflooding is a secondary phase involving the injection of water into the oil reservoir to enhance oil flow to production wells. This common method helps maintain reservoir pressure, which has decreased by 21.74%, and optimize oil production, leading to a recovery factor of 30-50%. MBAL modelling is a tool used to estimate oil and gas reserves and understand well and field performance comprehensively. The method compares the cumulative observed production volumes with the expansion of reservoir fluid due to a finite pressure drop. The reservoir model is then used for production simulation and estimating the remaining oil reserves in the field. The study used MBAL, PROSPER, and GAP software with data limited to 5 tanks and 5 wells. The research shows that waterflooding has a positive impact on increasing oil reserves in Field X. The predicted results with waterflooding reached 2.623 MMSTB, an increase from 1.897 MMSTB in the base case prediction for 40 years. An incremental reserve of 0.726 MMSTB was observed, with the recovery factor increasing from 26% to 39%. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the waterflooding method in maintaining reservoir pressure, increasing oil production, and maximizing the reservoir's potential in Field X. Implementing waterflooding can be a valuable strategy to optimize oil production and reserves in Field X.
