Abstract

The aim of the research is to determine and analyze the role of the Pekanbaru City Youth and Sports Department in preserving traditional games and sports in Pekanbaru City. This research uses a qualitative approach. The informants in this research were 6 people with the Head of Pekanbaru City Dispora as the key informant. Data collection techniques using interviews and data analysis using the Miles and Huberman technique. Based on the results of research and discussion regarding the role of the Pekanbaru City Youth and Sports Department in preserving traditional games and sports in Pekanbaru City, the researchers can conclude that they have not played their role optimally, this is because the traditional games in Pekanbaru City have been greatly displaced by modern games. . Society or even children today are more familiar with modern games such as Play Station, online games and others. So, in an effort to preserve traditional games in Pekanbaru City which are starting to be displaced by modern games, the Pekanbaru City Youth and Sports Service as the OPD in charge must try harder to preserve traditional games in Pekanbaru City.
