Abstract

This study is motivated by the lack of students’ interest in learning Islamic Studies. In addition, the parenting styles applied by parents in educating their children also determine their learning styles. In consequence, each child is different due to the differences in parenting style applied by each parent. Based on the temporary observation, it found some problems such as: the students often yawn, they are passive in discussions, they keep asking permission to go to the toilet, they are lack of concentration and etc. This situation can clearly be stated that the students lack interest in learning. The problem formulation of the study is how X1 influences Y, how X2 influences Y and how X1 and X2 influence Y. This study aims to investigate the influence of X1 on Y, the influence of X2 on Y and the influence of X1 and X2 on Y. The population of the study is all students in grade 8 at SMP Juara Pekanbaru. Because the population is less than 100, so the entire population is sampled. The study consists of variable X1 (Parenting Style), variable X2 (Learning Style) and variable Y (Interest in Learning). The study applies a quantitative-correlation method. The results of the study shows that there is an influence of X1 on Y, obtained from the significant value between X1 and Y which is in accordace with the significant value in ANOVA table of 0.002 and the magnitude of the influence is 28.6%. There is an influence of X2 on Y, this is in accordance with the significant value in ANOVA table of 0.002 and the magnitude of the influence is 22.9%, and there is an influence of X1 and X2 on Y, this is in accordance with the significant value in ANOVA table of 0.002. The magnitude of the influence is 23.7% and the remaining 76% is influenced by other factors. The relationship between the parenting styles and learning styles on students’ interest in learning Islamic Studies at SMP Juara Pekanbaru based on the coefficient value (R) is 0.487 or 48.7% which is in the range of 0.40-0.599 or included in the category of "strong enough".
