Abstract

One of the causes of the large number of imported products entering Indonesia is free trade. The distribution of food products that are not labeled as Indonesian which is still circulating in the community, especially in Pekanbaru City, is very unfortunate because not all people in Pekanbaru City understand foreign languages such as English. The formulation of the problem is How is the legal protection for consumers who buy imported food products that are not labeled Indonesian in Pekanbaru City in 2022 (Case Study at PT Supra Boga Lestari Tbk Pekanbaru Branch) and What are the obstacles in legal protection for consumers who buy imported food products that not labeled Indonesian in Pekanbaru City in 2022 (Case Study at PT Supra Boga Lestari Tbk Pekanbaru Branch). This research method is empirical research. The sampling technique used the census method and purposive sampling. Respondents in the study were the Department of Trade and Industry of Riau Province, business people from modern shops and consumers. The results of the study show that legal protection for consumers who buy imported food products that are not labeled with Indonesian in Pekanbaru City in 2022, namely the regulations set by Indonesia regarding the entry of imported products that do not include Indonesian language labels, namely contained in Article 8 letter j of Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection and Law Number 18 of 2012 concerning Food and Regulation of the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia Number 73/M-DAG/PER/9/2015 concerning Amendments to the Regulation of the Minister of Trade Number 22/M¬DAG/PER/5 /2010. Obstacles in legal protection for consumers who buy imported food products that are not labeled Indonesian in Pekanbaru City in 2022 (Case Study at PT Supra Boga Lestari Tbk Pekanbaru Branch) are caused by facilities and infrastructure factors in the Operations Division tasked with carrying out field assignments related to reports from the public, then there is the capability factor of the Pekanbaru City Drug and Food Control Agency Staff in carrying out agency duties or roles designated as consumer protection should be required to be more professional in carrying out their duties.
