Abstract
Verified badge subscription as the latest feature released by Instagram received various opinions both pros and cons because it was considered not to show the true capabilities of the 'blue tick'. Exclusively, blue ticks have been attached to celebrities or important figures such as Instagram celebrities, influencers, and other famous artists; actresses/actors & singers. Opinions from the public tend to express unrest and disappointment on @folkative’s Instagram comment section. The research method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. Researchers took the research subjects of Pekanbaru Instagram celebrities using purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques with interviews and documentation. Researchers have conducted interviews with 6 (six) Pekanbaru Instagram celebrities and 4 (four) other supporting sources on social media. The results of the study obtained two characteristics of opinion direction, namely positive direction in the form of a statement of support for an issue/topic problem, while negative direction in the form of a statement of disappointment and rejection of an issue/topic problem. Paid blue ticks are used as a self-actualization 'product' to strengthen one's identity on social media and also as a prestige need to be seen as equal to celebrities and public figures.
