Abstract

Framing Analysis of Foreign Online Media Channel New Asia and South China Morning Post on the Coverage of Gibran's Ethical Issues in the Second Round of 2024 Vice Presidential Debate Irfan Rizardi Putra 209110221 This research focuses on the framing analysis by foreign online media, namely Channel New Asia and South China Morning Post, related to the coverage of Gibran Rakabuming's ethical issues in the second round of vice presidential debate in 2024. The main problem of this research is how the two media frame the issue of Gibran's ethics and how each media constructs reality. This research uses the framing analysis theory of Robert N. Entman model with four tools namely Define Problem, Diagnose Cause, Make Moral Judgement, and Treatment Recommendation. The research method used is qualitative research with an emphasis on highlighting the framework of thought, selection of issues, perspectives and concepts about interpreting news. The results of this study show that Channel New Asia and South China Morning Post have different framing approaches to the issue of Gibran's ethics. Channel New Asia emphasizes criticism and the negative impact of Gibran's behavior, while the South China Morning Post focuses on the debate strategy and political effects of Gibran's actions with a more balanced moral judgment. The two media outlets showed differences in source selection, issue emphasis, and argument construction that influenced how readers understood and judged the issue. This research provides insight into the differences in foreign media framing and its impact on public understanding of political issues.
