Abstract

This research aims to analyze the implementation of buying and selling Mobile Legends online game accounts in Pekanbaru City based on the Civil Code (KUHPer) regarding buying and selling. The phenomenon of buying and selling online game accounts is increasingly common along with the increasing popularity of the Mobile Legends game among the public. In a legal context, this game account buying and selling transaction raises various questions regarding legality and legal protection for the parties involved. The research method used is normative juridical with a case study approach, where primary data is collected through interviews with buying and selling perpetrators and legal practitioners in Pekanbaru City. The research results show that the practice of buying and selling Mobile Legends game accounts is still in a legal gray area, where the legal aspect has not been specifically regulated in the Criminal Code. However, based on the general provisions regarding buying and selling in the Civil Code, the transaction can be categorized as a valid sale and purchase agreement as long as it fulfills general requirements such as the existence of an agreement, the ability of the parties, certain things, and a lawful cause. This research also found that there are legal risks faced by parties, including potential fraud and financial losses, which require more attention from the regulatory and law enforcement side. In conclusion, there needs to be more specific regulatory updates regarding the buying and selling of digital assets such as online game accounts to provide legal certainty and adequate protection for the public.
