Abstract
This study aims to determine how much influence the SAS (Structural Analytical Synthetic) method has on the initial reading ability in class II of SD Negeri 131 Pekanbaru. The type of qualitative research with the quasiexperimental method. The data collection technique is by conducting a reading test on students. The population in this study was class II consisting of 2 classes with a total of 60 students, class II A consisting of 30 students as the Experimental class and class II B consisting of 30 students as the Control class. The results of this study indicate that the reading ability of students in the experimental class increased after using the SAS (Structural Analytical Synthetic) Method. When conducting the pretest, the average score of students was 55,00 while when conducting the posttest, the average score of students became 85,00. The score of students in the control class during the pretest was 70,00 and when conducting the posttest, the student's score became 83,67. The results of the hypothesis test obtained that the sig two Side p value was 0.001 < 0.05, if the significant value (two side p) < 0.05, then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. So the conclusion is that there is a significant influence of using the SAS (Structural Analytical Synthetic) Method on the initial reading ability in class II of SD Negeri 131 Pekanbaru.
