Abstract

Copyright is one part of human rights (intelectual property rights), where basically everyone has the same opportunity in terms of meeting their basic life needs as long as it does not conflict with laws and norms, rules that live in society. The more developed information systems and technology, the higher the level of vulnerability to the trade of counterfeit or pirated goods. One example of pirated goods is pirated CD / DVD.With advances in technology, one can duplicate an intellectual work without having to ask permission from the copyright holder. In practice there are efforts from irresponsible parties in carrying out their wishes, one of which is violations committed by sellers of CD / DVD sellers in the market who copy and reproduce CD / DVD without paying royalties and without the permission of the creator. In the thesis entitled Copyright Legal Protection Against the Practice of Circulating Pirated CD / DVD Based on Law No. 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright in the Pekanbaru Region, there are main problems, namely: How is the implementation of copyright law protection against the practice of circulating pirated CD / DVD in the Pekanbaru area and What are the factors that become obstacles in the copyright protection of pirated CD / DVD in the Pekanbaru area The method used to answer these problems is to use sociological legal research methods, while judging from its nature this research is descriptive analytical The result of this study related to legal protection of copyright circulation of pirated CD / DVD that occur is legal protection for creators as copyright holders in article 9 paragraph (3) of Law no 28 of 2014 concerning copyright but in fact in the field there are still many sellers of CD / DVD copying or selling pirated CD / DVD, and The factors that become obstacles in copyright protection are economic factors, lack of legal awareness, especially Law no. 28 of 2014 concerning copyright and socialization carried out by the government is still not fully realized properly in the community.
