Abstract

Dance is a performing art that involves regular and rhythmic body movements, often accompanied by music and sometimes with elements of drama or narrative. It is a very rich and varied form of cultural expression around the world, with each culture having its own unique dance style and distinctive features. One of the dances that became a means of expressive media was Joged Petang Hari. The dance tells about the stalls held as entertainment events, anniversary events, and traditional ceremonies of the local community. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. Semiotics is the science that studies signs. This research aims to find the meaning of a denotation and connotation related to the association in the Joged Petang Hari dance. The results of this study are 15 types of movements related to expressiveness, individual interaction, and social interaction. From the research conducted, the researcher drew the conclusion that using Denotation refers to the literal or descriptive level of a sign. Meanwhile, the connotation is an explanation of the meaning from the researcher's own point of view, which the researcher determines based on the research and discussion above regarding the association with various Joged Petang Hari dance movements in the scope of individual interaction and social interaction.
