Abstract

This research aims to describe the symbolic meaning of the Basiacuong tradition at the marriage proposal event in Salo Village, Salo sub-district, Kampar Regency. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative research. The analytical method researchers used in this research was the Lexy J. Moleong method. The informants who will be used in this research are people who understand the Basiacuong tradition and the people of Salo village who know this tradition. A tradition that uses expressions to convey messages expressed in the form of parables, sayings, rhymes, and traditional figures of speech spoken by someone. So that it provides a value of beauty in it. The sentences and expressions in Basiacuong become special messages for the speakers and listeners because they have a social function and have philosophical meaning for the lives of the Kampar Malay people.
