Abstract

The phenomenon of academic stress tends to occur in individuals who are studying, especially students who are working on their thesis, which is caused by low motivation, lack of self-discipline, peer influence and responsibilities given by parents. This phenomenon can be reduced by increasing emotional intelligence so that they are able to control yourself. This research aims to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and academic stress in working on a thesis. The subjects of this research were 191 students who were working on their thesis at the Faculty of Law, Riau Islamic University. The sampling technique used was a saturated sample. The data collection method uses the emotional intelligence scale and academic stress scale. The results of this research use correlation analysis product moment. Based on the analysis results product moment The correlation coefficient value obtained was -0.565 with a significance of 0.000 (p<0.05). So it can be concluded that the hypothesis proposed by researchers is that there is a negative relationship between emotional intelligence and academic stress in working on a thesis at the Faculty of Law, Riau Islamic University.
