Abstract
The aim of this study is to explore prosocial attitudes in lecturers at the Faculty of Psychology, Islamic University of Riau who participate in the professional zakat program as a form of Islamic philanthropy. Prosocial attitudes are acts of helping which are conducted selflessly for the welfare of others. This study used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach in order to understand the experiences and views of the subjects in depth. Furthermore, the research participants were two active lecturers at the Faculty of Psychology, UIR who had participated in the professional zakat program. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed by using a thematic approach. The results of the study show that lecturers' prosocial attitudes are influenced by four main factors: (1) Information Sources, in which access to zakat program information influences the decision to participate; (2) Personal Experience, which includes a sense of relief and satisfaction after fulfilling religious obligations; (3) Affiliation with Groups, which creates collective responsibility through collaboration with institutions; such as, the Inisiatif Zakat Indonesia (IZI); and (4) Desire for Personal Satisfaction, which involves spiritual and emotional motivation. Thus, it can be concluded that the professional zakat program not only strengthens the prosocial attitude of lecturers, but it also has a positive impact in creating social solidarity and supporting the welfare of zakat recipients.
