Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the discovery learning model on the biology learning outcomes of class X students of SMA Negeri 11 Pekanbaru. The form of this research is an experiment with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Sampling using Simple Random Sampling. The sample in this study was class X.8 as the experimental class (38 students) and class X.2 as the control class (38 students). The instrument used in this study was a learning outcome test in the form of multiple choice questions that had been validated. Data collection techniques in this study used learning outcome tests, interviews, observations and documentation. Learning outcome data were analyzed using statistical analysis of independent t-tests assisted by the SPSS version 21 application. This can be seen from the difference in average values between the experimental class of 83.08 with a good category and the control class of 74.61 with a sufficient category where the average in the experimental class was higher than the control class. Based on the Independent t-test, a significant value (2-tailed) of 0.000 was obtained, which is smaller than the alpha value (?) of 0.05, which means that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected, with a significant effect size of 0.842 which is categorized as a large effect size. It is concluded that there is a significant influence of the Discovery Learning learning model on the biology learning outcomes of class X students of SMA Negeri 11 Pekanbaru.
