Abstract

This research aims to determine the influence of the Problem Based Learning model on the critical mathematical thinking ability of students at SMP Negeri 25 Pekanbaru. This research is a Quasi Experimental Design research and the design used is Nonequivalent Control Group Design and uses Purposive Sampling techniques. The population in this study were all students in class VIII of SMP Negeri 25 Pekanbaru, consisting of 8 classes. The sample for this research was class VIII.7 as an experimental class which was given treatment using the Problem Based Learning learning model and class VIII.8 as a control class which used conventional learning. Data collection took place from July 25, 2024 to August 14, 2024. The data collection technique in this research was carried out using test and documentation techniques. Data were analyzed using inferential analysis. In this study, the data were normal, therefore the only inferential analysis carried out was the homogeneity test and t-test. From the research results it was found that and so . This means that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted so it can be concluded that there is an influence of the Problem Based Learning learning model on the mathematical critical thinking ability of students at SMP Negeri 25 Pekanbaru.
