Abstract
The research was done to ascertain the significant positive effect of using the chain writing as a method for enhancing English writing skills of class VII2 first semester students. The Chain Writing method requires students in group to make a paragraph together because they will take turn to write sentence by sentence until the last member. The research design employed in this study was a quantitative experimental group. The study focused on two variables and involved a population of class VII students from SMP YLPI P.Marpoyan Pekanbaru, with sample size of 50 students. This research help in understanding how can chain writing affects the result of students’ writing skill. The result of the pre-test obtained from experimental group mean 58,6. The post-test of the experimental group obtained mean 70,8. And the result of the pre-test of the control group mean 59,2. The result of pos-test of the control group mean 62,2. From calculation of analysis data, it could be seen that the value of Tcalculated (to) in experiment class was 3,974. While tt of level significant 5 % was 2, 064. It can read 3,974 > 2,064. It means that t calculated (to) higher than T table (tt). Furthermore, the significant value in experimental class was 0,000 and it was lower than ? significant 5 % (0,05). It mean that 0,001 < 0,05. Therefore null hypothesis ( H0) was rejected and alternative hypothesis was accepted. There was significant effect of chain writing toward students’ writing ability at SMP YLPI Marpoyan Pekanbaru.
