Abstract

ekanbaru Keywords: Effect, Discovery Learning, writing This research is entitled The effect of discovery learning on the student writing ability on recount text of the tenth grade at SMAN 2 Pekanbaru, which aims to determine the effect of the Discovery Learning model on the writing ability of class X students at SMAN 02 Pekanbaru. The formulation of the problem in this research is there is a significant effect of the use of Discovery Learning on students' writing ability. When carrying out teaching practice, researchers received information that many students found it difficult to learn English, especially in writing. The method used in the research is a quantitative method with a one group pre-test post-test design using purposive sampling. The sample in this research was class X.2 as the pre-experimental class. The number of samples in this research was 40 students. The instrument used is a test which contains pre-test and post-test questions which consist of 1 question. Data collection techniques in this research were carried out using interviews, observation and documentation. Student learning outcome data was tested using the paired sample T test. This can be seen from the difference in the average score between the pre-experiment class and the pre-test average of 68.75, the post-test average of 90.88, where the post-test average is higher than the pre-test. test. The independent t test obtained a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 which was smaller than the alpha (?) value of 0.05, which means H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. So it can be concluded that there is a significant influence of the Discovery Learning learning model on students' writing abilities and there is an increase in writing learning for class X2 students with a significant average percentage of 22.13%
