Abstract
he aims of this research was to know students' ability in speaking and to find out which aspects are the most dominant problems for the students at the tenth grade students of SMK Pertanian Terpadu Pekanbaru. The focused of this research was to analyze the students' problems in speaking based on five components of speaking which are pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency and content. Then, focus to find out the most difficult aspects for the students. The design of this research was a qualitative research. It has one sample that was the tenth Agritan 6 grade students' of SMK Pertanian Terpadu Pekanbaru. The researcher used speaking test as the instrument of research. The research was conducted on January 31th, 2024 – February 1th, 2024. Analysis Technique is the researcher created transcripts of all recorded students' speaking one by one. If all transcripts were complete, the researcher requested assistance from two raters in evaluating and scoring the student's proficiency in descriptive text. From the results of this study, the researcher found that the students' speaking ability in descriptive text had the average score 56,8% of and was categorized good. In the pronunciation component the student's average score was 57,9%, in grammar it was 62,1%, in the vocabulary it was 60,7%, in fluency it was 52,4%, and the component of content the average score of the student was 51,0%. As a result, it can also be concluded that the most dominant problem faced by students in speaking was the content component.
