Abstract

n the process critical thinking skills are the ability to solve problem I a very important part . Improving critical thinking skills in the learning process can apply the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. The type of this research is a quasi-experimental (Quasi-Experiment) with nonequivalent control group design. The population in this study were all of class VII SMP Negeri 14 Pekanbaru. The sample used is class VII.2 as an experimental class which was given the treatment of the Problem Based Learning learning model and class VII.1 as an control class using the conventional learning model. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. The research instrument used was a mathematical critical thinking ability test kit in the form of a pretest and posttest, and the data obtained was then analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis. Inferential statistical analysis data were carried out by data normality test, homogeneity test and t test. From the results of the posttest data analysis, t_count = 4.14 and t_table = 1.99, so t_count>t_table . This means that there is an effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on the mathematical critical thinking skills of class VII students of SMP Negeri 14 Pekanbaru
