Abstract

This study aims to see the effect of Think Pair Share (TPS) cooperative learning on mathematical problem-solving skills of VIII grade students of YLPI Perhentian Marpoyan Junior High School. This research is a quasi-experimental design with Nonequivalent Control Group Design.. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. The population of this study were VIII grade students of YLPI Perhentian Marpoyan Junior High School consisting of class VIII-1 and class VIII-2. The sample of this study was class VIII-2 as an experimental class consisting of 15 students and class VIII-1 as a control class consisting of 14 students. The data collection instrument used was the mathematical problem-solving ability test. The data analysis techniques used were descriptive statistical data analysis and inferential statistical data analysis. The results of this study indicate that there is an average difference between the mathematical problem-solving ability of experimental and control class students after being given different treatments. This is based on the t-test obtained t_count=4,55 with ? = 0.05 and db = 27 obtained t_table= 2,05. So it can be concluded that it H_0 is rejected and H_1 accepted, which means that there is an effect of the Think Pair Share (TPS) type cooperative learning model on the mathematical problem-solving ability of VIII grade students of YLPI Perhentian Marpoyan Junior High School.
