Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of the Discovery Learning model on abilities in terms of the early mathematical abilities of class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Kampar. This research is a Quasi Experimental with a Nonequivalent Posttest-Only Control Group Design. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. In this study, two classes were used, namely class XI IPA 1 as an experimental class with Discovery Learning model learning and class XI IPA 4 as a control class with conventional learning. Data collection techniques in this study were carried out with test techniques. The data were analyzed using normality test, homogeneity test and two-way ANOVA. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that: 1) There is an influence of the application of the Discovery Learning model on students' reasoning abilities. A significant value of 0,036<?(0,05) is obtained which means H_0 rejected; 2) There is an influence of initial mathematical ability (high, medium, low) on students' reasoning ability. A significant value of 0,000<?(0,05) is obtained which means H_0 rejected; 3) There is no influence of interaction between the Discovery Learning learning model and initial mathematical abilities (high, medium, low) on reasoning ability. A significant value of 0,592>?(0,05) is obtained which means H_0 accepted. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there are the influence of the Discovery Learning model on reasoning abilities in terms of the early mathematical abilities of class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Kampar.
