Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the difficulties experienced by grade X students of SMA N 1 Mempura in solving the Three Variable Linear Equation System (SPLTV) problem in the form of a description problem. This research is qualitative descriptive research. The subjects in this study were class X MIA and class X IIS 1 SMA N 1 Mempura which amounted to 45 students. The instrument used in this study is a description test developed by researchers. The data collection technique used is a technical test while the data analysis technique used is data reduction , data collection, data retrieval / verification . The results showed that students had difficulty in understanding the questions obtained 2.67%, difficulties in solving the questions obtained 8.44%, difficulties in interpreting the questions obtained 1.33%, difficulty in parsing answers obtained 5.33% and difficulty in mastering the material obtained 56.44%. The factors that affect students' difficulties in solving the Three Variable Liner Equation System ( SPLTV) description problem are: (1) wrong in determining the concept, namely in use a formula inconsistent with the conditions under which it applies; (2) misuse of data, i.e. not using data that should be used and adding data that is not needed to answer the problem; (3) has not been able to convert everyday language into mathematical language using mathematical symbols; (4) poor in understanding and reading the questions; (5) not being careful in working on the operation on the problem; (6) make inferences without proper supporting reasons. Based on the results of the research above, it can be concluded that students of SMA N 1 Mempura have difficulty in mastering the material of the three-variable linear equation system (SPLTV).
