Abstract
Therefore, there are many books that can help student in learning process. This research aims to find out the eighth grade students’ reading habit after Covid-19 Pandemic at SMP PGRI Pekanbaru. This research used the descriptive qualitative method. The sample of this research was used total sampling. The research sample was 36 students of class 8A and 8B at SMP PGRI Pekanbaru. The research instrument is questionnaires, and there are 30 questions. In this research, the researcher analyzed by categorized the data based on indicators, described the data, and concluded. This study found that students’ reading habits were categorized as positive. Almost all the eighth grade students have a good attitude toward reading. Moreover, most of the eighth grade students enjoy reading books and do not feel annoyed and anxious when asked to read books. Meanwhile, students also have positive book reading. Students have favorite types of books to read. Furthermore, the eighth grade students also have positive time spent on reading both in academic and non-academic. Finally, the eighth grade students also have positive motivation in reading, and students get motivation from their families and teachers in school to read books because reading can increase their insight and achievement. On the other hand, the researcher found that one indicator of reading habits get negative results. The indicator is reading frequency. Almost the eighth grade students did not read quite a lot of books and rarely spend their time for reading because they did not like reading
