Abstract

Bank or banking financial institutions have a very important role in a country's economy. A bank is a business entity that collects funds from the public in the form of deposits and distributes them back in the form of credit. PT. BPR Pekanbaru Madani provides a form of credit based on article 10 of the 1998 Law. A less transparent financing process can result in default, causing bad loans. The main problem in this study is the factors that cause bad loans at PT. BPR Pekanbaru Madani and legal protection carried out by PT. BPR Pekanbaru Madani in overcoming bad loans due to default. The type of research used in this study is observational research law, namely by means of surveys, while its nature is descriptive, namely research that aims to provide a more precise and concrete picture. The results of this study show that the factors causing bad loans come from customers who are less able to manage their business, customers who do not have good intentions and customer accidents. As for those that come from the bank because of the quality of bank officials, competition between banks, bank internal relations, and bank supervision. Protection of debtors who experience bad credit is more about efforts on how to overcome or prevent problematic credit. The legal protection provided is two, namely preventive (prevention) and repressive (settlement) legal protection.
