Abstract
Pulau Penyengat is one of the leading tourist destinations in the Riau Islands. It is renowned for its historical, cultural, and religious tourism. The attractions in Pulau Penyengat are heritage sites from the Malay Riau-Lingga-Johor-Pahang Kingdom from the 17th to the 20th century. However, there is currently no established travel route connecting the various attractions, which means that visitors may not fully experience the history and culture of Pulau Penyengat. Therefore, a study on the development of a historical and cultural tourism route in Pulau Penyengat, Tanjungpinang City, Riau Islands, is necessary to enhance the historical and cultural tourism experience. This study uses both quantitative and qualitative methods. The identification of historical and cultural attractions employs qualitative descriptive analysis. Meanwhile, the travel routes are determined using Network Analysis. The perception of visitors is measured using the Guttman scale, and the attractions are grouped based on proximity classes using hierarchical cluster analysis with the Agglomerative method and the Average Linkage sub-method, using SPSS 25.0 software. The results of this study identify 46 historical and cultural attractions spread across Pulau Penyengat. Based on the Network Analysis, 34 attractions are accessible, while the other 12 are not due to access limitations. It was found that 46.57% of visitors are knowledgeable about the history and culture of Pulau Penyengat. The attractions are grouped into four clusters based on the proximity classes of accessibility between the historical and cultural sites on Pulau Penyengat.
