Abstract
A text-based approach is implied in the curriculum 2013. This issue was important because students cannot understand the context of the text due to the lack of vocabulary. This study was intended to get empirical evidence about the Effect of Anagram Games on Students‘ Vocabulary Mastery of the Eighth Grade at the SMP Negeri 11 Pekanbaru in the Academic Year 2022/2023. The design of the study was Experimental design. The population was the Eighth-grade students at the SMP Negeri 11 Pekanbaru. The sample was 70 students chosen through the random-sampling technique and categorize into two classes; Control Class and Experimental Class. The data was obtained through a quantitative approach. The instrument was a vocabulary test with 20 total questions consisting of 3 indicators of vocabulary (meaning, synonym, antonym) in pre-test and post-test. The analysis data used SPSS version 26, and Cohen‘s d formula for its effect size. The result showed that the pre-test score of 54.12 and a post-test score of the experimental class had a mean of 68.53 with p-value or sig 2-tailed 0.000. The effect size also showed a strong or large size effect of 0.8. The significance level ? 5% or 0.05 showed that sig 2-tailed 0.000 < 0.005 and tCount in 11.109 > tTable 2.034. It proved that applying Anagram gave a significant effect on students‘ vocabulary mastery of the eighth grade at the SMP Negeri 11 Pekanbaru in the academic year 2022/2023.Afrina Prishiela Salim (196310142).
