Abstract

This descriptive research was conducted to find out the students ' speaking ability in the language function , particularly the expressions of opinion , agreement and disagreement . The samples of this research were 30 students from Sevond year students at SMA N1 Tambang Kampar. Because the number of population is very large, the researcher takes a sample the sample is only part of population. Sugiyono (2012) states that sampling is the process of selecting a representative number of individual out of a larger group. The sample in this study were all of 30 students' of class Mipa3 of second year students at SMA N1 TAMBANG The sampling of this study is purposive sampling with number 30 sample consisting of 7 male student and 30 female students. The design of research instrument is a device used by researcher while collecting the data to make his work becomes easier and to get better result, complete, and systematic in order to make the data easy to be processed. An instrument could be in form of pre-test, In this study the researcher used pre-test as an instrument.The instrument of this research use pre-test . The data were analysed by calculating the students ' score individually and finding out the mean score . The data were presented by using graphic . The data showed that the student's speaking ability was in good level with the very good 85% . The result of students ' ability in each aspect was average level for expression of opinion ( 85%) , while expression of very good ( 85% ) and excellent ( 95% ) were in excellent. Based on the finding , it was suggested that the students need to do more practice in speaking in order to help them to increase their understanding of the materials . The teacher needs to give more opportunities for the students to practice using expression of opinion , agreement and disagreement , especially practice to initiate / ask using of those expressions . Further research can focus on each subtopic in detail , particularly about expression of opinion since it was the students ' lowest score .
