Abstract
Population growth and increasing development activities in Pekanbaru City cause the demand for land to increase so that land conversion is inevitable, especially in agricultural land and plantations which have the potential to affect food security and urban resilience in the face of climate change and other negative impacts. This study aims to study and identify land cover and its changes, especially in agricultural land and plantations in the last 5 years from 2018-2022 in the city of Pekanbaru. The main goal is that the information can close the unavailability of data and help many parties in anticipating the impact of land conversion. This study uses digital image analysis or multi-temporal spatial remote sensing with a supervised classification method for identification and overlay analysis to see the changes. The imagery used is Landsat 8 in 2018 and 2020 and Landsat 9 in 2022, all image processing in this study was assisted using ArcGIS and ENVI applications. Based on this study, it shows that the land conversion in Pekanbaru City in the last 5 years in 2018-2022 has undergone insignificant changes, changes in area occurred in built land which increased by 263.67 ha, undeveloped land increased by 397.31 ha and agricultural and plantation land decreased by 669.84 ha. The largest change in agricultural land and plantations occurred in Tenayan Raya District, where the area of agricultural land and plantations decreased by 355.59 ha. Seeing this phenomenon, researchers found that there was quite a large land clearing in the sub-district which allegedly occurred due to the construction of gas plants and certain industries, while in other sub-districts the conversion of functions to non-agricultural was marked by the formation of cluster housing areas.
