Abstract
This study discusses legal protection for consumers. Online buying and selling transactions provide convenience for buyers in terms of goods and/or services, whilesellers get convenience in marketing their products, even saving costs and time. However, the goods being traded often do not match the information from the seller, there are even defects and the actions of these business actors are contrary to Law No. 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection. The thesis entitled "Legal Protection of Consumers in Buying and Selling Transactions of Electronic Goods Through Instagram According to Law No. 8 of 1999 Concerning Consumer Protection in Indragiri Hilir Regency" discusses the following issues: 1) How is legal protection for consumers in buying and selling electronic goods through Instagram according to Law No. 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection in Indragiri Hilir Regency, 2) What are the inhibiting factors for legal protection for consumers in buying and selling transactions of electronic goods through Instagram according to Law No. 8 of 1999 in Indragiri Hilir Regency The objectives of this study are: 1) To find out legal protection efforts for consumers in buying and selling electronic goods via Instagram according to Law No. 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection in Indragiri Hilir Regency in obtaining their rights 2) To find out the factors hamper legal protection efforts for consumers in buying and selling electronic goods via Instagram according to Law No. 8 of 1999 in Indragiri Hilir Regency. The method used is to use the empirical legal research method, which is a data collection technique, in which the researcher makes direct observations of the research object to take a close look at the activities being carried out. Methods Data collection was carried out by interviews, questionnaires, and observation. The results of this study are a form of protection when consumers of electronic goods experience losses and are not responded to by business actors, consumers can come to the Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) to help resolve problems between consumers and business actors and actors inhibiting consumer protection online shop electronics among others, is the lack of awareness of electronic goods business actors in providing product information and the lack of consumer knowledge of the identity of electronic goods online shop business actors
