Abstract
Currently, the need for residential land in Pekanbaru City is increasing due to the high level of urbanization. With limited land in the city center, housing growth spreads to the outskirts of the city with land conditions that are uneven, even tend to be hilly, and with various types of soil. The aim of this research is to determine the suitability of residential land in the Air Hitam Sub-Watershed, Pekanbaru City using a Geographic Information System (GIS) with overlay techniques. Analysis of basic physical characteristics data using descriptive analysis using Arcgis software to process data into maps, and suitability of residential land using quantitative descriptive methods (using the overlay technique on Arcgis software). The results of this research show that (1) the Air Hitam sub-watershed has a volume error value below 5% when using the Nakayasu method, making it one of the sub-watersheds with the potential for implementing effective flood mitigation techniques, and (2) the Air Hitam sub-watershed area Entry into class S1 (suitable) amounted to 19.77 Km2 (53.7%) and into class N1 (not appropriate) amounted to 17.04 Km2 (46.3%). The Air Hitam sub-basin has an area of 36.8 km2, and 46.3% of this area cannot be used as residential land. However, due to limited residential land in Pekanbaru City, 46.3% of this land is still used by the community. Therefore, good evaluation and planning is needed so that the people who live there can live comfortably and safely.
