Abstract

Mathematical critical thinking skills are needed in mathematics learning. However, from the observations that researchers get, it shows that the ability to think critically mathematically of junior high school students in mathematics is still in the lowest grouping. Other than that, mathematical critical thinking there are other factors that can affect student learning, namely self-concept. The purpose of this study was to analyze students' mathematical critical thinking ability in terms of selfconcept of junior high school students. The type of research used descriptive qualitative research with research subjects consisting of 31 students of class VIII.4 SMP Negeri 37 Pekanbaru. From the results of the test of questions and questionnaires 31 students, then 6 students were taken who were grouped into 3 categories, namely 2 students in the high self-concept category, 2 students in the medium self-concept category and 2 students in the low self-concept category selected based on the results of the mathematical critical thinking ability test and self-concept questionnaire to be the subject of the interview. Data collection was done through mathematical critical thinking ability test sheet, self-concept questionnaire and interview. The results of this study show that five (5) subjects of high category mathematical critical thinking ability have high self-concept, twentytwo (22) subjects of medium category mathematical critical thinking ability have medium self-concept and four (4) subjects of low category mathematical critical thinking ability have low self-concept.
