Abstract

Foundation is an important part of a building. If the foundation is not strong enough to withstand the load, subsidence can occur which endangers the structure. The selection of foundation dimensions must be adjusted to the soil conditions. This study aims to analyze the comparison of axial and lateral bearing strength of single piles and calculate lateral settlement and deflection based on variations in dimensions and foundation depths to determine the optimal dimensions and depths. Calculation of axial and lateral bearing strength is carried out using CPT and SPT soil test data. CPT data is used for the Schmertmann and Nottingham and Meyerhoff methods, while SPT data is used for the Meyerhoff and Briaud et al. method. Lateral bearing strength is calculated using the Broms and Reese & Matlock (1956) methods. Deflection is calculated using the Broms method and settlement using the Vesic empirical method (1970). The calculation results show that all analysis methods have met the safety requirements for axial and lateral bearing strength, with an axial bearing strength value of 888 kN and a lateral value of 285 kN. The settlement of 8.51 mm is still below the allowable limit of 80 mm according to the provisions of Reese and Wright (1997), while the lateral deflection of 2.74 mm is also below the allowable limit of 122 mm as stipulated in the Special Bridge Safety Guidelines No. 02/P/BM/2022 by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing. Based on these results, it is recommended to use a pile foundation with a diameter of 800 mm and a depth of 11 m.
