Abstract
Clay soil has high water content and low bearing capacity, often causing problems in civil engineering construction. To increase the bearing capacity of clay soil, samples were taken from Jl. Siak II, Kawasan Mesjid Raya Provinsi Riau, Pekanbaru, which experienced structural tilt due to the low bearing capacity of the soil. This research aims to improve the physical properties of clay soil by stabilizing it using a mixture of Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE) and Tohor Lime, as well as measuring the density and CBR (California Bearing Ratio) values of the soil. The method used was a laboratory experiment with variations in the mixture of 22.5% SBE and 25% quicklime, as well as variations in curing time (0, 4, and 7 days) and a soaking time of 4 days. Based on the test results, it shows that the original soil has a water content of 29.45%, a specific gravity of 2.43 g/cm3, retained sieve analysis test no. 200 of 40.44% and a maximum density of 1,570 kN/m3 with an optimum water content of 20.8%. In testing, the CBR value showed varying results according to the mixture and curing time. The optimum original soil CBR value is 13.99% for 7 days of curing. For the original soil + SBE mixture, the optimum CBR was 7.94% at 0 days of curing, for the original soil + quicklime mixture it was 28.84% at 4 days of curing. The highest optimum CBR value was achieved in a mixture of original soil + SBE + quicklime with 7 days of curing, namely 29.36%. And the optimum CBR value for a soaking time of 4 days is found in a mixture of original soil + quicklime, namely 20.75%. In conclusion, the use of a mixture of SBE and Tohor Lime was effective in increasing the bearing capacity of clay soil, with the highest CBR value at 7 days of curing.
