Abstract

A boiler is a device for converting energy contained in fiber and shell fuel which produces steam and is used to generate electricity which is used for factory process needs. The aim of this research is to evaluate the performance of the Takuma N 1300 type boiler which has been used for 10 years at PT. Perkebunan Nusantara V PKS Tandun. Problems that occur include decreasing efficiency and increasing fuel requirements which can hamper the CPO production process. The research method consists of collecting data in the initial period of operation in 2013 and currently in 2023, using a boiler control panel and equipment for monitoring pressure, temperature, and steam and water flow rates. The analysis results show a decrease in boiler efficiency of 5% over 10 years of operation. This decrease mainly occurred in fuel requirements, heat required by the boiler, heat absorbed by the kitchen, and combustion air requirements. Periodic boiler maintenance and repairs are required to maintain optimal performance in the CPO production process. Therefore, regular monitoring of boiler performance is very important to ensure the smoothness and efficiency of the palm oil mill production process.
