Abstract
Batam City has a hilly topography the soil is dominated by red bauxite soil which is less fertile. The problem that occurs on the Simpang Bundaran Airport Hang Nadim Batam road is the level of road damage caused by traffic conditions. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between CBR and sand cone values and the thickness of the subbase course on the Simpang Bundaran Airport Hang Nadim Batam road. The methods used in this study are CBR testing in the laboratory with a CBR immersion period of 4 days, sand cone testing in the field, and the moment product correlation method, which is to determine the level of relationship between CBR values and sand cone values. The implementation of the test follows the test procedures in accordance with applicable standards based on SNI, bina marga and AASHTO. Based on the results of CBR testing carried out in the laboratory with a soaking period of 4 days, an average CBR value of 1.45% was obtained. For sand cone value testing carried out in the field, the average sand cone value result was 88.9%. Based on the results of testing the CBR and sand cone values, it was found that the soil did not meet the standards to be used as a sub-base layer, because the required specifications for CBR were 60%, while for sand cones it was a minimum of 95%. From the results of the correlation test on the average value of CBR and sand cone, the correlation value was obtained, r = 0.965. This shows that this value has a level of correlation that is directly proportional between the carrying capacity value and the density of the soil. It can be concluded that the CBR and sand cone values have a directly proportional correlation because these values do not meet the required specifications.
