Abstract
Every parent has the hope that their child will be born healthy and normal. Children who require special attention and care are often referred to as children with special needs (ABK), one example of which is autism. Communication is a very important aspect in everyday life because it functions as the main means of interacting with other people. The existence of communication as an important element shows that communication is a bridge that allows individuals to build social relationships with each other. The aim of this research is to determine the description of communication skills in children with autism. The respondents in this study were 3 students who suffer from Austime and 3 special school teachers who taught each respondent studied and 1 student representative representative of children with Austime. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data collection methods use participant observation and interviews. The results of this research can be concluded that the use of the ATEC (autism treatment evaluation checklist) method has a significant impact in assessing or monitoring the development of communication skills in autistic children. This can help evaluate critical aspects of communication such as speaking ability, language comprehension, eye contact and response to social cues
