Abstract

This study was motivated by the issue that students experienced difficulties in learning Arabic, which affected their low interest in studying the language. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of Grammar-Translation Method on increasing Arabic learning interest among seventh grade students at Islamic Junior High School 3 Pekanbaru. This research was quantitative with a correlational approach. The sample consisted of 64 students. Data collection techniques included questionnaires and documentation. This study involved two variables: X (Grammar-Translation Method) and Y (Arabic Learning Interest). The findings showed that the hypothesis test result was 0.00 < 0.05, indicating that the Grammar-Translation Method had a significant influence on increasing students’ interest in learning Arabic. The magnitude of the influence could be seen in the summary table, where the R square value was 0.515 or 51.5%. This indicated that the increase in interest in learning Arabic was influenced by the Grammar-Translation Method by 51.5%, which fell into the moderate category. Therefore, it could be concluded that there was an influence of Grammar-Translation Method on increasing Arabic learning interest among seventh grade students at Islamic Junior High School 3 Pekanbaru. Hence, it was important to further enhance Arabic learning by using the Grammar- Translation Method to boost students’ interest in the subject. Future researchers were encouraged to conduct studies using other and more recent methods in order to discover additional strategies to improve students’ interest in learning Arabic beyond the Grammar- Translation Method used in this study.
