Abstract

This study seeks to explore the social adjustment experiences of the 2023 cohort at the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Islam Riau. Using quantitative descriptive methods and using the Slovin formula for sampling, we collected data from 176 respondents from a total population of 313 students. Information was collected through a validated and reliable questionnaire focused on social adjustment. The results revealed that the majority of students (59.9%) showed a high level of social adjustment. In particular, female students were more likely to fall into this high social adjustment category compared to their male counterparts. In addition, students aged 19 and 20 years showed a higher level of social adjustment than those in other age groups. These results indicate that freshmen at the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Islam Riau generally have strong social adaptation skills, engage effectively with peers, faculty, and participate in academic and extracurricular activities. The findings of this study aim to inform educational institutions as they design guidance and counseling programs that can better support students during their social adaptation process on campus.
